Tejon Lodge 104 is proud to have contributed to the Washington Monument Restoration Fund.
The Washington Monument has not undergone such a thorough restoration in over 80 years. The monument has over 3000 visitors a day, by the way tickets are now required to enter the monument, and was not designed for that volume of traffic. All stairways have been closed since 1976, though even as a child it was a long walk, so the only access to the top is via elevator. The monument has now been closed to all interior traffic for the next two years and is expected to be re-opened after a rededication ceremony on July 4, 2000.
The Grand Lodge of Washington D.C. is working very hard in helping to preserve the rich Masonic history contained in the Washington Memorial. Our Masonic fraternity in conjuction with Target stores have joined with the National Park Service and many other corporate and private sponsors to help restore this wonderful monument to it's original grandure so another 80 years of visitors can enjoy this living tribute to President and Brother George Washington.
